MSP Sales Not-a-Fit Rate: Definition & Formula

Sales not-a-fit rate measures appointments that fail the agreed qualification criteria. The Growth Planner describes it as a share of booked first appointments. Illustrative example: eight not-a-fit appointments in a completed cohort of 50 booked appointments give 16%. If your team reports a share of attended meetings instead, label that denominator and reconcile it before transferring the percentage into the planner.

Target interpretation

Context matters

Set the target against your service scope and company plan.

Formula

Booked-cohort not-a-fit rate % = appointments classified not a fit ÷ booked appointments in the same completed cohort × 100

Why it matters

Qualification losses increase the activity needed to generate qualified opportunities.

A lower not-a-fit rate is useful only if the team still applies the real qualification criteria.

Common mistakes

Entering an attended-meeting percentage into a booked-meeting model without reconciliation.

Relabeling lost qualified opportunities as not a fit to improve close rate.

Using a cohort that still contains unclassified future meetings.

What moves the number

Write observable qualification criteria and reason codes.

Review source quality and appointment-setting expectations.

Track the full cohort from booking through attendance, qualification and final outcome.
