MSP KPI Definition
MSP Tickets per Endpoint: Definition, Formula & Operating Standard
Use reactive tickets for one calendar month and the managed-endpoint population supporting those tickets. The client-health workbook reports this monthly; the capacity calculator uses three-month averages of monthly tickets and endpoints. Keep the same scope in both counts and separate co-managed environments when their service scope differs. For example, 330 monthly tickets ÷ 1,000 endpoints = 0.33 tickets per endpoint per month. It helps leadership distinguish a genuinely noisy service environment from a larger client base that simply creates more total tickets.

MSP Fuel Operating Standard
≤ 0.33 per month
MSP Fuel taught operating standard for monthly reactive ticket load per managed endpoint.
Taught operating target, not an observed industry benchmark.
Formula
Monthly Tickets per Endpoint = Monthly Reactive Tickets ÷ Managed Endpoints
Why it matters
It gives a normalized view of reactive demand instead of looking only at raw ticket count.
It helps capacity planning when paired with resolution time and technician throughput.
It can expose clients or environments where proactive service is not reducing avoidable reactive work.
It is useful at both company and client level when the ticket population is defined consistently.
Common mistakes
Changing ticket classifications from period to period.
Mixing incidents, managed changes, project work, and proactive work without understanding the purpose of the metric.
Using tickets per endpoint alone for staffing without considering average resolution time.
Comparing clients with different service scopes without context.
What moves the number
Standardize ticket classification before trusting the trend.
Separate incidents-only stability analysis from all-ticket capacity analysis when useful.
Trace repeated reactive issues back into Technical Alignment and Centralized Services.
Review high-TPE clients individually rather than treating the average as the whole story.
